Analysis of NME double page spread
Colours
Like the front cover, there are multiple colours which are very bright and stand out a lot which doesn’t follow the conventional rock magazine house style. However, this means that when we see this page, we automatically know that it’s the story on the front cover. Apart from the colours on the image, the rest of the two pages are very dull with just a white background and a black headline. However, this black headline really stands out on the colourful image so it’s clear as to what you’re about to read. In the article there are some lines which are a blue text and this matched the image and also makes the white background have a bit of colour other than black text.
Design and Images
The design is very simple with an image taking up the left page and half of the right page and the article over to the right hand side. This design is good as it means the page isn’t cluttered and there isn’t too much writing which instantly puts you off reading it as it looks too long and would bore you easily. Having such an exciting image on the page also helps the reader avoid getting bored of the article. The actual image is of the band which grabs in the reader because everybody will want to hear about their favourite artists.
Language and Words
Having read the headline, the reader understands why there is so many colours in a rock magazine. The name of the article is ‘Behold the wings of change’, which means that the rock image is changing, as the band illustrate, and therefore, it can still be a rock magazine but with many colours rather than the conventional black, white and red.
Overall Impression
I really like this double page spread as its lively and interesting as it hasn’t got too much writing on one page which makes the story seem dull and you’re more likely to read it when you don’t have to do much reading. Also the picture is very interesting and colourful for people who like a bit of change rather than dark colours all the time. I like that it’s got a very simple design and the page isn’t overly cluttered with different images and writing.
